Thank you, Alumni and Daramalan College Family members for attending Grandparents Day. It was a special day for Year 7 students, and it was amazing to see several generations gathered at Daramalan College yesterday.
Congratulations to Daniel Lalor (1996), who received the Australian Government Public Service Medal for outstanding service to public health as the Director of Pharmacy at Canberra Health Services. Mr Lalor was instrumental in supporting the ACT’s COVID-19 response.
Thank you for your work!
Thank you to our 2017 graduate Taylah Cunningham and our Youth Minister Bart Bunk (2019) for helping students from Mr Andrew Digan’s Year 7 Religious Education class with video recording and editing today. We appreciate Taylah and Bart’s experience and assistance in making today’s learning process even more enjoyable.
Thank you very much to the Daramalan College Alumni and parents who assisted with our English Department’s mock interviews this week. By interviewing our students, your knowledge and expertise have brought unique insights, guidance and mentorship and helped them feel more confident and prepared to enter the workforce.
Congratulations to Anthony Williamson SC (2000), who has been appointed as acting Director of Public Prosecutions.
Daramalan College is exceptionally proud of its graduate, Fire and Rescue NSW Deputy Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell (1992), who received the highest honour afforded to Australian firefighters.
Jeremy was named a recipient of the Australian Fire Service Medal in the 2021 Australia Day Honours List.
We are excited to announce the Daramalan College Alumni and Community Book Club launch!
The Daramalan College Alumni and Community Book Club is intended to be fun, informal and a great way for Daramalan Alumni, parents and friends to connect. It is open to former students, staff, parents, partners, friends and all the other valued members of our Daramalan Community!
No pressure: we are only planning to meet once every two months.
Our first meeting will be held on Thursday 22 June, 5.30pm at Daramalan College. We will not have any specific book to read for that meeting; instead, I encourage every participant to tell us about a great book you have recently (or not so recently) read.
We can meet, get to know each other and decide on a book for our next meeting.
We can also decide on a more creative name for the Club and other organisational details.
If you love reading, want to stay connected to the Daramalan Family, and want to join our Book Club, please email [email protected]

Due to the uncertain nature of last year, we missed the following: 1982, 1992, 2002 and 2012 Year’s Alumni reunions. We sincerely apologise and plan on rescheduling these celebrations for later this year (please see the dates below).
Thank you to all of the former students who brought our attention to the missing reunions.
Thank you, Brendan Campbell (2003), for coming to Daramalan College and talking to students at our ANZAC Day address.
Rebecca Harper, a former Daramalan College Science Teacher, opened her fabric and sewing class store Weft and Warp a couple of years ago. Last week Rebecca talked to The Canberra Times about COVID-related business challenges and optimism about the future.
In the build-up to Daramalan Theatre Company’s production of “Troilus and Cressida”, we are happy to introduce Jack Curry, a 2018 Daramalan College graduate who plays the role of Pandarus and uses his theatrical experience to help with production. Jack gives us an insider’s take on the play and tells why it is worth watching.
Come and see “Troilus and Cressida” Shakespeare’s hidden gem, presented as it has never been seen before!
Two of our recent Alumni made us proud last month.
Claudia Marcks (2021) competed at the Cycling Track Championships in Brisbane. She placed second in the Elite Women Pursuit Gold Final at the Cycling Track Championships before competing in the Oceania Track Championships on 24-28 March. Claudia had the opportunity to race for Australia for the first time in the Elite Women Team Pursuit, where they won Gold.
Another 2021 Daramalan Alumni, Samantha Bondietti, was introduced as a new NSW 19/U Netball State Team Captain and will compete in the National Netball Championships starting Tuesday 11 April.
We are delighted to announce dates for the 2023 Year Group Alumni Reunions.
We will share additional information soon, but please spread the word, tag your classmates and pencil in the date! We are also looking for expressions of interest for Reunion Year Group Convenors.
ACT Brumbies are no strangers to Daramalan College. Yesterday Daramalan students enjoyed another visit. The Brumbies conducted their practice on the College grounds, assisted with Daramalan Rugby training and interacted with students.
Brumbies Tighthead Prop, Tom Ross (2011), and Team Physio, Mitchell Ward (2011), were clearly happy to return.
If you are interested in enrolling your child, please come and find out more on your tour through Daramalan College.
Daramalan College hosted a Vinnies Night Patrol training session again for those interested in helping our volunteer team on select Sunday and Tuesday evenings. The training session was hold on Thursday, March 7, at 3:45pm in the FLA.
If you are interested to help, you can choose from a range of evenings to volunteer with us over the next six months. Volunteers need to be at least 17 years of age and hold a current WwVP card. You need to have completed the training session in person or be willing to complete the training modules online prior to heading out with the van.
Please direct message or email [email protected] if you have any questions.
Daramalan is always proud to have its Alumni returning to the College as faculty members, bringing with them deep knowledge of the school and its values, together with fresh thinking. This year, three Alumni have started their Teaching careers at Daramalan College.
Kavita Jogia (2014) completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and International Relations at ANU, followed by Masters of Secondary Teaching with specialisations in HASS and Languages at UC. Kavita is currently a Psychology and HASS Teacher at Daramalan College.
Jack Ross and James Ross graduated from Daramalan College in 2018 and continued their education at the University of Canberra. James studied for a Bachelor of Education (Health and Physical Education), majoring in Sports Science, whereas Jack has his Bachelor’s in HPE and Mathematics.
This year Jack started his career at Daramalan College as a Math Teacher, and James teaches Year 7-8 Science. Jack and James also coach the U13 Rugby Union team.
And to answer your question, Jack and James are not family relations!
In a recent article, the Sydney Morning Herald celebrated Wildlife Scientist, Marine Biologist and Daramalan Alumni Vanessa Pirotta’s (2006) many professional achievements and her environmental suggestions.
We wish Vanessa much continued success in this important field.
Last week our Alumni member Zoe Davis (2019) returned to Daramalan College to talk to the Year 10,11,12 drama students about her pathway into the Performing Arts industry. Zoe answered multiple questions and gave tips to the ones interested in a Performing Arts career.
Zoe graduated from NIDA last year with a Bachelor of Technical Theatre and Stage Management. This year she got a job as a Professional Assistant Stage Manager on the production season of Sydney Theatre Company’s “Hubris and Humiliation”. Way to go, Zoe!
Good news comes from the World Baseball Classic opener in Japan, where Daramalan Alumni Robbie Perkins (2012) hit a home run for Australia to beat Korea in the world baseball championship. Good luck, Robbie, in your next match against Japan tomorrow!
So much brilliance and goodwill were on display at the annual Year 11 Student Awards Ceremony in McCowage Hall on Thursday 2 March. Students, staff, family and friends witnessed an outstanding group of students be congratulated for their academic results, school and community leadership, creative talent, service, and commitment to MSC values.
The Ray Family Award is presented to a student who demonstrates a strong commitment to serving the community and is particularly mindful of those people who are most vulnerable. It is especially significant given that several generations of Ray family are Daramalan College Alumni. Seeing this award go to Zoe Mitchell and be handed over by Lyn Ray, was a special pleasure.
Noor Dahar won the top Maths award, presented by Daramalan’s legendary Maths Teacher Ms Wendy Wade. The John O’Mara Shield (1967) award for Excellence in Sport and Sportsmanship, presented by Amanda Kiley, went to Amelia Gaspari.
