Nathan Price (1998)
Nathan Price (1998) followed his dreams when choosing a future career. He became a very successful tennis coach based in Canberra and worked with top junior players in Australia.
What did you do after finishing Daramalan College, and what are you doing now?
Straight out of school, I travelled around Australia and the world competing and playing tennis. In my mid 20’s, I settled into full-time tennis coaching, where I spent periods running my own coaching business, a state tennis program for Tennis ACT, and a commercial coaching business for Tennis Australia.
Today I work for Tennis Australia in high performance, leading player and talent development in the ACT region.
Do you feel a connection to Daramalan even after your school time?
So many unbelievable friendships and connections that I have today were born during my time at Daramalan.
I am always very proud to say I went to Dara; my connection to many people is through my interactions with them in College. I’ve got two young boys now, and it’s extremely likely they will both go to Daramalan as well, which will further deepen that connection.
I also have been coaching a number of Daramalan students. Ashleigh Simes and Martina Udjur are both currently at College in the US on Tennis scholarships. Ashleigh was always a top 10-ranked player in Australia, competing nationally against the country’s best players.
As for the current Daramalan College students, Jack Dugdale and Sofia Simoncini are no longer competing, but both were ranked top 3 in the ACT and top 30 – 50 in the country during their playing years.
Who was your favourite teacher?
John Coonan. Legend
What are you most proud of in your life?
Being able to spend so much time doing the things that I’m passionate about and love.
What is your advice for current students?
Strive to do the things that bring real enjoyment and satisfaction to your life. Search for something that ignites your passion! When you find the right pathway, realise that you don’t have to excel at everything right at this moment… you simply need to have a mindset of constant and never-ending improvement. If you can bring and sustain that attitude, you’ll be a big success at whatever it is you choose to do.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Playing sports, watching sports & spending time with friends and family!
Which talent would you most like to have?
I’d love to be able to read people’s mind.
Who is your hero of fiction or movie?
I wouldn’t say he’s my hero, but it would be pretty cool being Tony Stark & Iron Man!
